Old post>

Well I've been taping for a long time and recently my rig has been CSB > mic2496 > PDAudio >Dell Axim 51v
I have to say I've been extremely happy with the results.
Dell was a little problematical to start with and I missed a couple of gigs but that's been sorted now and it's pretty reliable.

But I'm getting a itch to buy some new gear.

The mics are an easy decision DPA 406....ahh not so easy 0 or 1 then there is the HEB option. I will be using them with mic2496 but also with a new recorder so I want to get the microdots and the DPA pre-amp.
Also fancy a pair of Church Cards. I've never recorded with cards so I thought they might be a nice addition to the quiver.

When it comes to the recorder I'm in more of a dilemma.
*I'm always stealth even when it's not needed*
The choice seems for me to come down to either:

Edirol R9 (might get one of these anyway even if I go for one of the others)
Korg MR1 (Has this passed the TS challenge?)
SD722 Is this a stealthable unit? I'd have to buy from the US because the shops over here in the UK don't seem to be able to convert from USD to GBP without adding on 60-70%

In less than 1000 words what would you do?

If you are still planning on running the Mic 24/96, then really, for practical purposes, all you need is a bit bucket.  The 722 is an awesome machine, but rather pricey, if that is all you will be using it for.  The Microtrack 24/96 is the budget bit bucket of choice for most.  Digital in, unlike the R-09.  If you were going to go with mics>deck, then the 722 is an excellent option, as many many people, me included, have no problems at all running without any other equipment in the chain, even though we frequently do anyway.
