Micro Track Issue
« on: July 01, 2007, 01:18:26 PM »
Currently I am running the latest firmware version for the Microtrack.  Right before the show I formatted my 4GB Kingston CF and about 5 min before the show started I hit the Record Button and I could see from the screen that the recorder was picking up sound.  Shortly after the show started I checked to see if I was getting signals and I was still recording.  After the First set was over I hit record again saw the Microtrack write the file.

Second Set started and I did the same all over I got signals and it was recording.  After the show was done and I got home and saw the Microtrack had only recorded the first 10 min of the first set and the second set was complete.

I did not have the hold button on but I only hit the record button

1 to start the recording
2 end of first set
3 start of second set
4 end of second set

If the recorder did stop recording in the first set from me hitting the button by accident I would have seen it when I hit it the second time and not seen the write file screen at the end of the first set.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.  Has this happend to anyone else with the new filmware version???

Even though this doesn't sound like the hold button would have mattered, always use the hold button. I think it is especially important on small devices which can slide around or get bumped.

There is a chance you might recover that audio.  Do a search here for photorec and follow the tips in that thread.  When using photorec disable all file types except audio.

When you saw the mt write the file at the end of the first set, did you happen to look at the length of the file?  Just wondering.

I did not look at the length of the file because there was  security everywhere.

I will try the File recovery

Not sure how to use this program.  It did recover the same file I am able to extract.  I posted my questions about the program in the recording software board.

I am really desperate to reover this file.  Its the whole first set of Roger Waters in Omaha.

I almost hate to suggest this, but is it possible that you started the recording and then 10 minutes into the show the nav wheel / button got bumped placing the MicroTrack into record / pause mode?  You would have still seen the level meters bumping around and the signal leds would be on or blinking and also the writing file dialog wold have appeared when you pressed record again.  I hope this wasn't the case but it matches your description (unless you can confirm that the record icon was on screen the entire first set and not the pause icon). I guess the hold button get's another 'yes' vote.

I experienced something like this.  I hit record and started interviewing someone, but after the 20+ session was over all I had was 10 seconds of silence.  I KNOW it was recording for longer than that, I checked levels and everything.  Might be one of the MT's "quirks"?

Oh sh%t I did.  I did not know that paused the recording.  I did it because I could not see the screen in the dark.  That would make perfect sence.  That is why when I hit record for the second time it wrote the file.

One of these days I am not going to be an amature anymore and I will stop littering these boards with dumb mistakes

Thank you
