anybody have suggestions of setting up the Microtrack with CSB's and Bass Rolloff, or the AT853's and a SP bass roll off?

Also have a -20dB attenuator cable I could use.....

Wow, HenryJ, I figured you'd be using a NJB3.  :P

If the choice is between your CSBs and your AT853s, I'd choose the CSBs.  As I remember, your AT853s always sounded like they were brickwalling.  I swear there's something wrong with that particular set of mics. Your CSB recordings were always much better and they're more stealthy anyway.

**History: My first live recording (except for a couple of tries with a cassette deck back in the 70's) was with a MZ-R37 and AT853s, borrowed from HenryJ.  It was a great show, but a terrible, terrible recording.  Very boomy and clipped sounding.**

Why don't you change that bandname and venue to "xxxxxxxx" at "xxxxxxxx"

I don't think it's a bad idea to say your going to steath, but there's no reason to say who and where. Just ask your question and ask that we respond via PM's.

Good luck, and have fun.

Oh, and second vote for the CSB's. Smaller is better under your circumstances.

I owned 2 different NJB3's

first one was worthless, 2nd one after RMA was even more worthless...

best part I used 2 PCM-M1's at the time, and they only got 1 tape, the whole conversation was recorded on 2nd source...

Classic!

Yup, it was pretty funny stuff.  HenryJ posted the clip (named "busted") on another messageboard and you could hear the whole sequence of events.

Ok I used the CSB> Bass Roll off (Filter setting) > -20db Attenuator > Line In > Microtrack.
The levels were at the highest possible and I feel the recording is still very quiet, or recorded at two low of a level..

What would happen if I removed the -20db Attenuator  and recorded ? would this create brickwalling?

Thanks

Remove the attenuator and just cut the levels on the microtrack a little to compensate for it's absence.  You can keep it on and amplify in post, but if the recording is REALLY low it will introduce hiss during amplification.  From what I understand cardioid mics are a little more suited for loud shows.  Maybe borrow some from the loaner program and try them with the same setup.
