please give me contructive criticism
« on: July 16, 2007, 04:28:36 PM »
let me start this off by stating i am not an u/ler anywhere, so if someone wants to let me u/l to their tracker or ftp site, i would be more than happy to do so.

these scene:  abbey pub in chicago last friday night.  its not the best room in the world, plus there are fans clamped to the railing on the balcony that didnt allow me to be on axis (dfc).  i also only attended with one other friend, so moving up in the room would not have provided me with enough protection from the crowd.  also, it was a marching band that i taped, and these guys move around (they march) throughout the audience, from the balcony, etc...  alot of fun, but a logistical nightmare.

technical details:  ok, this is my first real rig, and i did the best of my ability.  my rig is modded nak 300(bodieless mod)>cp2 (omni)>ua-5 (oade w+ mod)>d8.  i ran just in front of the board, left of center.  i ran the omnis, because as i mentioned, i wanted to try to capture all the moving parts of the band.  in retrospect, from where i was, the cards would have sufficed for this particular gig, but i have seen these guys before, where they are in 3 or 4 different locations throughout a venue playing (trumpets here, trombones there, cowbell right next to you, etc...)

ok, so if anyone would like to let me run this through their tracker, if anyone runs a public ftp, or if a few people would like a snail mail copy (no b+p, just make sure you grade my effort), please pm me.

i want to spread the music of this band around, as much i would like feedback on the job i did last week.  this was a challenging show, and i think i did ok, given the above circumstances.  but its a fun listen, you guys will enjoy it, but i would also like to hear back from some people with comments from "you suck" to "stand should have been lower, no need to run the omnis" to "not a bad listen" just to decide how i can get better.

and to answer some questions about this show that i posted last week.  i couldnt run the omnis split because i didnt have the people, and didnt have the stands.  my new battery pack for my microtrack isnt in yet, so i couldnt run 24/48 as i had hoped.  yep, the cards would have sufficed, me thinks.

thanks so much for any feedback.  i hope you get the chance to give this show.

NOTES

i ran omni capsusules.  spatially, there is alot of "air" to this recording, but i wanted to capture the movement of the performers throughout the venue.  i was right up in front of the board, but becuase of very strong fans clamped to the balcony, in a small space, i was about 4ft left of center, thus an off axis recording.  also, becuase of a very chatty crowd, i ran my stand at full height of 8'.

i did my best.  enjoy.
