TSKB: good 24-bit capable laptop soundcard
« on: August 02, 2007, 10:46:11 AM »
SSIA. should be good for both recording and playback.. any suggestions at a affordable price (~100$)? i'm looking at a PCIMA audigy ZS2, which is the same i have in my PC and i'm very happy with it. maybe i'm missing something better? i'm looking for 2.1, so 5.1 is not a priority

Digigram VXPocket V2 or 440

Both can be found on ebay and occasionaly here on ts in the YS for right around $100 - $150.  I would start and stop my search with those two cards.  Both are proven and reliable.

Digigram VXPocket V2 or 440

the advantages of the VX Pocket is that it has many different input/ouput options, includung S/PDIF.
the disadvantage of the VX Pocket is that it doesn't do 96 kHz.  its limited to 24/48.

i use the echo indigo - works great!

the advantage of the Echo Indigo is that is does handle 24/96.
the disadvantage is that it does not have S/PDIF input/output.

correct. to be clear, i usue the echo indigo dj. this has two outputs (headphone and line), both stereo minijack.

i run from the line-out stereo minijack to the bluesky media desk system.

depends if you want something that is bit-accurate, or just something that sounds ok. I'd expect to test it, and dont rely on manufacturers claims

most laptop soundcards out there DO NOT do bit-accurate data streams

(hello, maudio!)

the vx pocket is hands down the most stable reliable card out there. Well worth $200 if youre using it for recording spdif
