Topic: Rescuing a 'stalling' CD audio track?

Here's the problem that I've got. A really good friend gave me a mix CD the other day, and it's great, until the final track. That particular song plays for 30 seconds and then stops. It doesn't skip, it just stops completely. The disc is free of scratches and dust, so that shouldn't be the problem. When I put the disc into my PC and play it through iTunes, it tells me that the final track is the correct length (4:39), but still freezes after 35 seconds. I'm gutted, cos the final track is particularly lovely.

 

Is this something I can fix? Is there a way of getting the data from the disc? It seems to me that I'll not be able to do anything about it, but you folks know all there is to know about such things. Any software solution, or will I just have to learn to live without that track?

Yup, tried EAC yesterday. No problems with the rest of the disc, but 30odd seconds into the final track EAC crashes. I think I'll have to hit up the download sites to get me another copy of that particular tune.

Sounds like a bad disc to me. The TOC is written in its own track, so iTunes is simply picking up the time from the TOC. The fact that the CD crashes an application trying to read all the bits of the disc screams of a bad disc burn. You might be better off asking your friend for another copy of the disc.
