My version of a dead rat...
« on: August 27, 2007, 12:55:15 AM »
So I was thinking about making a small dead rat for my stock Peluso CEMC-6 wind screens. Made especially for those situations where I won't need the bulk of the Shure A81WS's. Here's what I came up with: a small dead rat that fits sort of like a boxing glove. Where the cap is enclosed in a pocket (sort of) and then there is elastic nylon chord laced down the side so it fits the body of the mic snuggly. I've left one open and the other closed so you can see what I mean. I think these would work where the wind is not so bad, maybe 10 mph or so. Maybe when I get back from my trip to the Gorge I'll offer some up, any size even. I bought 2 yards of this stuff and purple is the only color I liked that had the fibers long enough.

What do you guys think?

Come to think of it the chord does make them look girly, but it was cheap! I've spent so much on gear in the past month that I had to go cheap. The wife growls at me whenever I mention NEW stuff to get. I also noticed that I probably should have cross laced the chord sort of like a show lace, instead of a drawstring type closure. Ah well, not bad for my first set.

All that matters is that they work well.  Folks will be listening, not looking.  ;o)
