recording Rush indoors tips?
« on: September 04, 2007, 05:37:15 PM »
I plan to tape Rush, Sept. 22 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.

I haven't seen them since the Presto tour in 1990, but I remember them being at the louder end of rock shows. I'm worried about overloading my equipment which will be:
Hat-mounted SP-CMC-4's (AT853) Cardeoids, Church Audio ST9100 pre with sensitivity mod, Edirol R-09.  I'll be going line in, gain set to 8/30.  Can the CA ST9100 handle being turned up all the way at this high an SPL?
Any other tips from people who havetaped them this tour greatly appreciated!
Yep I know about the huge bang during "Far Cry". :)

I'd use caution if going +20 db on the 9100.  Might overload at the pre-amp given how loud Rush is.  Unity is 11:00 O'clock on it.  I'd start there.
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

Rush at Red Rocks wasn't very loud compared to what I've heard from other bands. Normal volume.

I'd remove the venue and date from your post.
