Simple AKG ck91/93 question re: the side vents
« on: August 03, 2009, 12:36:02 PM »
Kind of a silly/simple question:  Are the diagonal cuts on the side of the various AKG ck9x mics cosmetic or are they part of the design?  I know that you never want to cover the side vents when using a directional mic as it will change the polar pattern of the mic, so I want to be sure my planned methods for mounting these won't cause that problem.  For instance, in order to fit them into a kwon bar, I was going to wrap that area with a furniture glider to make it fit more snugly.  It seems to me like those diagonal cuts are a lot farther down the cap's body than the side vents on other types of mics, so I thought maybe they were cosmetic only.  Also, the omni has one cut, and AFAIK omnis don't need side vents, so that also added to my confusion.  Thanks for answering such a simple question.
