I am putting any relavant info regarding the modification of LC3KA cables to LC3 old style with lemo connectors.

Just looking those who have run the AK caps into a Lemosax.  Opinions about the differences in sound, the practicality of the set up (the connection of the cable lemo to the lemo jack on the lemosax seems like a weak link).  Any experience with the connectors themselves?  If nothing, the lemo cable connectors would be helpful when dealing with the kinky cable twists when setting up.  I am possibly asking Nick to custom make the connections near the mic body connection (about 25-30cm from the end).  That way, I can stash the bodies into the bag, have the lemo connections near the surface so as to facilitate a quick connection to the cable and active heads without those nasty kinks.

For the Lemosax (I have yet to confirm this with a voltmeter):

Wrote to Neumann and got a response regarding cable color assigments:

Dear Mr. Liu,

the wires in the LC3 are assigned in the following way:
Shield = GND = 0V
white = 10V = outer ring contact
green = 50 V polarization voltage (48V is fine as well) = middle ring contact
brown = signal = central pin.

Please check polarity of the signal, e.g. comparing with standard wired mics. The AKs need -50V to produce correct polarity in unbalanced connections, so probably you will have to invert polarity when mixing with other signals.

is the 5pin input specific to schoeps kcy cables?  or is it capable of just being 5pin stereo ?

It's Schoeps' own arrangement--not any kind of established standard, but it is documented by them, of course. In principle nothing would prevent a person from using this socket with "active" capsules and cables of other manufacturers, if the voltages and impedances are similar enough.

However, active cables should always be kept to a minimum reasonable length since in every manufacturer's system I've ever seen, the signals are unbalanced and they aren't being driven by the lowest possible source impedance, either. Schoeps initially offered a 5-meter (~16.5-foot) length as the default, with a 10-meter length as an alternative. That was their best way to offer safety from RF interference at the time, but that was back in the early 1970s before the profusion of cell phones, Blackberries and other RF devices in general public use. So it seems to me that this ought to concern more people today than it did back then.

My own active cables are 3 meters (just under 10 feet) long--I use them for M/S recording with the capsules set at the top of a tall stand, and clip the mike bodies onto a side arm attached near the base of the stand.
