sony md mz-n510 (can someone transfer a show for me?)
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:08:18 PM »
Hey guys, sorry to bother.

I recently taped a show and taped it on my MZ-N510, which I'm sure you know can't be transferred by USB because it's not a Hi-MD. I'd have to do the MD output > comp mic input to transfer it, and I'd lose a lot of quality on it. This is probably a one time thing only because the iRiver I was going to use for the show didn't arrive until the day of the show (I was 300 miles away AT the show so that didn't do much good lol - slow mail!).

I know there's a way it can be transferred without losing quality, it's just I'm not sure how. I saw a post on TS I think last year where someone said they'd transfer a show like this if they were PMed, but I couldn't find the post. I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to this kind of thing, so I'm not really sure how it would be done.

If anyone can help me out it'd be great!  8) You can have a recording of the show of course (if you want it), I'll pay shipping both ways if required for anything and if you charge a bit for it I understand.

Thanks!

How much loss are we talking here? All the shows I have transfered sound good imo. Or maybe I dont quite have that ear yet.

Did you transfer with USB?

The only way that I can do is the MD headphone output > computer mic input and there is a hissing / buzz noise that is constant throughout the whole show. It is possible to transfer it without that, so that's what I was asking :)

Thanks boojum. I PMed you.

You would definately get better results transferring digitaly via usb with an MZ-RH1. This removes the d>a and a>d stages, plus the possibility of noise in the connection and in the headphone amp circuit.
Mics: MM-HLSC-1, ECM-737, ECM-719
Recorders: R09, MZ-RH1, MZ-R70, MBP
BBox: Greenmachine DIY, CA-UBB (on the way!)

For this sort of thing - where a portable MD has no digital output - I bought a Sony Pro Studio machine with an AES3 digital output and transfer the signal that way.

This way there is no D-A and corresponding A-D conversion.
