Lewitt Mics
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:35:11 PM »
One of my new gear porn catalogs came today...the new full-compass cat is out....saw an interesting new mic inside....by a company called Lewitt.  Looks like something we would use as tapers...

Looks like a German designed china  built mic....

Cheaper to have the R&D in Austria, and the manufacturing lines in China, as companies today find works best for mass production.

oh, thanks for that, otherone. I didn't see it on their site but I figured it had to be chinamade based on the cheap price.

DAT, you're totally correct but don't you think quality would suffer?

In regards to the LCT 140 & 340.  It seems the 140's are electret capsules:capsule is a 17mm (2/3 inch) back-electret design.  And the 340's are not:capsules use externally-polarized (true condenser) elements measuring 12mm in diameter.  NOt sure what kind of difference that would make in the sound of them.

I was also wondering that. the 140's are on the more affordable try out over the $470 340 series.

In general would there be a difference, for our purpose, on electric capsule vs. electric design?

There are good mics which use the electret caps AKG & Shure to name two off the top of my head.  I have also heard some of those types of capsules to sound grainy or a little to mid rangey to me.  Of course that could also be internals in the mic and not the capsule.

Oh, most definately.

I think mics designed in western Europe should be made there to qualify as being in that catagory.
