i know why
i just got one from the same seller
$405 shipped with a fr2le bag
i contacted the seller to see if they would have more anytime soon, i was told that they would have more in a few days
a few dyas later they did in fact post some, then when i went to buy one it was gone
so i contacted the seller again, i was told fostex got on their case for selling them so cheap and they were not allowed to do so anymore but they would still honor the price i was seeing
now that was over a month ago so who knows, but if you make a offer of $400 i bet you would get it

I have been watching this seller and last week he stated in the auction to not make an offer lower than about $450.  Now he states in the auction to "Don't be shy, make a reasonable offer and it's yours."

So I bet we can still get these for a little over $400, but it just isn't being advertised openly as such to keep Fostex happy.

I recently made an offer of $400 shipped to this seller and the lowest they would go was $420. I took it.  :)

With few exceptions, the gear we buy is made out of the country, and transportation costs (read: oil prices) are rising fast.  Add to that the declining value of the dollar versus most other countries' currency.  The distributor and retailer can't absorb all the increases.
