Earplugs

I attend from 1-4 shows a week and want to keep my ears safe.  Currently I use foam earplugs when the music seems too loud.  These earplugs are good for shooting a gun or running a table saw; what would be good for music?  The problem is best addressed in the following hikoo.

it's safe but feels dull

How can I lower the sound entering my head rather than turning it off?  I feel like I have seen earplugs with holes in them that would allow some sound to enter.  Any help would be great.

get a pair of the etymotics...the best earplugs out there, and they dont dull the music like most I have used.

are these etymotic earplugs everyone is getting the model numbers "ER20xxC" where the "xx" stands for the color you want? just curious cause i definitely want a pair of these.

the way i do it is to take them out, put them in their case, and clean them off before the next show after things have dried a bit, using a bit of napkin or tp.

that works and I also run them under warm water, and give them a full day to air dry...

I use "Westone". I had to get a mold made for my ear canal and they are over $100 but very worth it to me. These form fit you ear only and have interchangable caps for how much DB you need. I love em, and there very comfy since they are molded to your ear. You will have to go to an ear doctor but I think they may be a big step up from the other ons noted here.

I did use a simular product made by "hearos" as this ER-20. Worked well but I'm not sure how much they reduce spl's by.

20dB, hence the "20" in ER-20.  I have some custom molded earplugs for riding my motorcycle and have thought about getting a separate set of custom molded plugs for concerts, too - hmmmmm...got me thinking about that again...

Yeah, I don't find the ER20s the most comfortable in the world, that's kinda what got me leaning towards the custom jobbies again.  Thanks, CT.
