fwiw...i have all sony es home stereo equipment including DAT.  several years ago i had the same experience...plug everything in and pop...status 11 on DAT - Sony ES DTC-1000ES.  i hate to say it but mine also was a stupid mistake.  took it to Doug from whom I purchased and the diagnosis was not good.  he actually ordered the part from Sony and repaired it but it was costly...$275.
