Nice sounding band

well, the band describes themselves like this...
Quote
Modern Global Music on shuffle...Argentine Tangos, Italian Tarantellas, Turkish Sufi sacred songs, Irish reels, Moroccan trance, Bulgarian dance music, and music from composers Hermeto Pascoal & Astor Piazzola. Also originals from the band members.

really, just music from all over the world, most of it traditional folk music (though not folk in the American sense of the word).

and Gutbucket - thanks for the info about the cajon.

The music is a bit unusual.  Not really my taste but I can appreciate the fact that it's something original.

I think the best way to mic anything is to use your ears... No sound engineer no matter how many years of experience can say "this is the way to do it" especially if its a project they have never worked on before. Get there have the band play walk around and listen. Does the standup guy have an amp? most do.... if not then you need to mic him for sure. The drum kit needs to be a pair of overheads if you want it to sound dimensional. You really need 5 mics if you want to spot mic. 4 will not cut it unless you want to simply go with stereo pairs IMO.

So many people are fixated on what pattern to use and what technique.... years of experience has proven to me listen first then think. Its nice to have a game plan always but in the end one must be flexible and have options its nice to know about technique but in the end your ears are all that matters.

Nice sounding band

Sounds somewhat similar to the Tin Hat Trio - their Helium and Memory is an Elephant discs held steady rotation spots in my CD players for months.
