Okay, I've set my price limit. The recommendation I got outside this forum was SP-BMC-12 w/ a SP-SPSB-10 for $158 total. I was recommended Church CA-14's, but especially with a box I fear it will get well out of my price range.

Suggest away, and links to where I can find the equipment cheap would be greatly appreciated.

There's no question you can't do better than this for the money. Spending more for Chris' ST-9100 preamp instead of the battery box would be even better. Can provide attenuation for extremely loud sources (the Zoom recorders may need this, not that I recommend them) and cleaner gain for quiet sources. For most recorders, however, the CA-14 and battery box will do great for anything that isn't extemely quiet.

Simon, for the life of me I couldn't find a link to see where to buy the mics or that box, can you point me in the right direction? If I can do the CA-14's and the box for $170, I will most likely do it.

I also highly recommend Chris's equipment. I have both cardioid mics and a preamp from him and I consistently pull great recordings
