My buddy Dan Allan is an Audix dealer (as well as Sennheiser, Audio Technica, AKG and lots of others). Shoot him an email.

I would try Full Compass first:
http://www.fullcompass.com

They have the best prices for caps for the Audix 1290 series and good prices in general.
AT853's (all caps)/CM-300 Franken Naks (CP-1,2,3)/JBMod Nak 700's (CP-701,702) > Tascam DR-680
Or Sonic Studios DSM-6 > M10

whichever the older version is (1280 or 1290...1280, I think), stay far away from them. the newer version is fine, but the older version had major problems in the mic bodies. we've had 4 of them go bad in the last year at my shop. audix has replaced them each time with the newer version, admitting that there is a known problem with the older bodies, but not a bad enough problem to warrant a recall.

it was interesting last night as we stayed after church and i was walking around.  finally took a survey of the equipment the choir/band used and noted that the choir has 5 1280C mics looking right at them.

Is that made in Taiwan?  I got one pretty bad 1280 which was made in Taiwan.  It pick up noise and I sent it to Audix.  They told me that they run some test on it but found nothing wrong with mic....  Later they sent back a new one to me anyway.  Now I knew they did not run a test, actually did nothing but replaced it ;D ;D ;D

You're an Audix dealer, right?

Do you know if all their small mics use the same capsules as the "micros"?  For example, the USB12 USB/podium mic, or the ADX20, ADX40 hanging choir mics?  These all seem like cheaper options if they have the same capsules.  Ie., gold mylar.

Thanks,
  Richard

I have a pair of the 1290's, which are the older series. Exactly what problems did you have with them?

You are right...the 1290's are the older version, the 1280's are the replacement. I *just* spoke with Audix about a 1290 that we sent in for replacement, and the tech explained that some of the 1290's had "noise issues" having to do with circuitry design, but not ALL of the 1290's have the issue. In our case, the mics simply died...passed no signal. The 1280's have new circuitry design. They typically replace the preamp (body) and use the existing capsules. If you have 1290's, I would suggest calling Audix and discussing the problem with service. Most likely they are going to tell you that unless you have a problem, they won't replace it, but if you were to say something to the effect that you have had noise issues, I bet they'd replace the bodies with no questions asked. Richard,

I remember there was a member in the team audix thread that had the 1290's as well as a pair of adx20's and he posted that the capsules were not interchangeable.

Although, this still doesn't mean that they aren't gold mylar.
