You are right...the 1290's are the older version, the 1280's are the replacement. I *just* spoke with Audix about a 1290 that we sent in for replacement, and the tech explained that some of the 1290's had "noise issues" having to do with circuitry design, but not ALL of the 1290's have the issue. In our case, the mics simply died...passed no signal. The 1280's have new circuitry design. They typically replace the preamp (body) and use the existing capsules. If you have 1290's, I would suggest calling Audix and discussing the problem with service. Most likely they are going to tell you that unless you have a problem, they won't replace it, but if you were to say something to the effect that you have had noise issues, I bet they'd replace the bodies with no questions asked.
