Audition 3 question

ok, now i understand what you're after. i don't think it's possible to play back a track and record a separate one at the same time.

I'm pretty sure it should be possible - it'd be a strange multitrack recorder if it didn't...

Until it was set in the control panel I had the same problem.  Once you do it you can record into via UA-5 and have playback on your soundcard.

I'm not sure what I'm meant to be trying here - the only options I get through the Control Panel are enabling/disabling recording and/or playback for individual devices. I adjusted these (so that playback only is enabled for my internal soundcard while only recording is enabled for the UA-5) after your first reply. I thought by doing this I'd be 'forcing' the output through the internal sound device but still get no output.

I think this may be because Audition only 'sees' playback/input devices from within the currently selected driver. So if I choose the UA-5, my only outputs are via the UA-5...

I'm baffled as to how you are able to configure Audition like this while I can't - can I check that we're using comparable setups? I'm using a Busman modded UA-5, laptop PC and Audtion v3.

I did it! (I think).

It seems if I select the "Audition 3 Windows Sound" driver under EDIT>AUDIO HARDWARE SETUP, the UA-5 inputs still appear as an option on the drop-down Inputs menu.

What has been catching me out is that the converse is not true: i.e. if I select the UA-5 driver, any other outputs do not appear on the drop-down Outputs menu.

I'm now getting a message that says that the driver I'm using does not offer the best quality but I'm going to experiment for a while and see how it works out.

Well, I thought I had it...

It seems pretty hit-and-miss whether Audition recognizes that the UA-5 is there or not.

I thought there was some correlation between it working and having the UA-5 was in ADV and 96kHz REC mode when it was turned on but even that doesn't seem to do the trick every time.

This coupled with the fact that even when it was working I was getting a noticable latency issue means I'm going to find another (maybe Firewire) input device.

Oh well, it was worth a try...

Somethings funky, I don't have any of those issues.  I'm running Xp on a Dell E510 with a Busman modded UA-5.  Let me rephrase that. I do notice Audition will take a "warm up" period if I have a lot of effects dialed in.  Meaning that it takes sometimes as long as 15 or 20 seconds to start and sometimes will start choppy.  But this is using effects that give you the warning it may not play(IE Studio Reverb) I hit pause and give things a chance to "catch up" and it runs fine then.  BUT, I am only doing multitrack mixing of previously recorded things.  MOst tracks I have loaded were 14 at once.  The only time I use the UA-5 is to do DAT to computer transfers.  Audition is a bit of a CPU hog.  Try CTRL/ALT/DEL and check out if you are maxing out your machine.  If thats the case then from what I have heard a firewire type interface is better.  Most of the multitrack work I do out of the effects rack which helps rather than add an effect to a track in edit view.
