Mic Stands
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:06:41 AM »
What do you tapers suggest on a new mic stand?

 Mine broke this past weekend

I need something to get my nak 300 with shotguns up in the air at a reasonable cost that goes high in the air

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

^^ I bought a Savage light stand from eBay that is about 15' for well under $100. I believe they make taller models.  Obviously I don't have to tell you that at 16ft you are likely to have quite a hefty footprint, especially from a less-costly stand.
Mics: Schoeps MK4V, MK41V, MK5, MK22> CMC6, KCY 250/5, KC5, NBob; MBHO MBP603/KA200N, AT 3031, DPA 4061 w/ d:vice, Naiant X-X, AT 853c, shotgun, Nak300

Someone at GD Vault suggested this mic stand at a great price

The manfrotto is the same as the Calumet.(OEM).. The 13.5 air cushioned stand is the call and its $70.00

http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/MF6065/

notice the part number MF6065 (MF=Manfrotto)

Manfrotto 1004BAC...seems to be a popular choice. I got one around Christmas and have been very happy with it. Price is just north of $100 and it goes up 12 feet.

http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-1004BAC-Master-Stand-Black/dp/B0023RRPE2

is 16 feet really necessary? sounds like overkill.

Manfrotto - FWIW, lots of folks use these stands.  There has to be a reason.  My guess, they work great and are a great buy.   Am I right??       ;D

Stands come in a million designs and you'll get a different suggestion from everyone that responds to this thread.  Go to B&H Photo and search the term 'light stand' and you'll get perhaps 20 pages of hits.  Decide what you want based on price, height, overall weight and footprint.  Pay attention to the hardware that is on the top and make sure you have what you need to connect to your mic mounts.  If you don't know what that is, search the archives, this question has been answered 10,000 times.

I'm actually serious about my post, anyone using CA-11's and need's to be resourceful... considering the size of the mics and the radius of the top of a beer bottle, you can clip those on and angle them just right.  hopefully you have a holder or table to set it on, or doublefist...
