Anyone know what a 'baby' 5/8" stud is?
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:41:52 PM »
So I just ordered this Avenger stand that is described as having a "baby 5/8" stud" but I have no idea what "baby" refers to. I just want a 5/8" stud that I can attach a Bogen rapid adapter to, and hoping this "baby 5/8" stud" isn't too small or short to attach it to.  The tiny picture online doesn't help too much:

Thanks AudBall.  ;D  I'm still not really understanding it still (aren't there 3/8" studs also?), but it seems like a 5/8" baby stud is basically just a 5/8" stud.  Anyway, I'll quote it here for posterity:

Quote
baby (hardware) - is the word used to describe a 5/8-inch stud/pin or receiver on any piece of grip or lighting equipment (because it is the smallest sized). Used in combination names such as: baby stud, baby 2K, etc. Other stud and reciever sizes are: junior and senior.

What it's saying is that there are 3/8" studs but they are not used in professional grip/lighting situations. Baby (5/8") is the smallest size the pros use.

Okay, that makes sense, thanks.
