Topic: Proper case/sleeve for PCM-M10?

I'm looking for a good, small case for the PCM-10.  I keep the unit in my pants pocket, and I want something primarily to aid in organizing the battery box and cables.  I'm less concerned about protecting the unit.   I also would like to be able to operate the unit without taking it out of the case. 

Ideally, I'd love something like the leatherette carry cases that used to come with the old Sony Walkmans and Aiwa cassette recorders - the ones that had the plastic window over the screen and holes cut out for the buttons and jacks.  I can't understand why Sony doesn't include something like that with the M10. 

If there's no commercial product like that out there, would it be possible to get one of those foam stretchy sleeves they make for GPS units and just cut holes in it?  If you cut holes in those things, does the stretch material just fall apart on you, or is it pretty durable? 

Has anyone else done something like this for their M10?

It has a pouch, under the flap, that fits a mini battery box. The flap itself has a zippered compartment for the remote. So the way I do it, the unit goes in the main pouch, the mini battery box in the smaller pouch. The cord for the remote (with a bagtie) goes behind the PCM-M10 in the main compartment and the remote goes in the flap, which is flat but perfect for the PCM-M10 remote. You have to leave the top partly unzipped but there is webbing in the case so the PCM-M10 never is in danger of falling out.

It's like it was made for the PCM-M10. And it's got a belt loop. Mics on shirt collar running inside shirt to battbox, battbox conected to PCM-M10 in the Lowepro. Bonus: It's a camera case, so security guys think the PCM-M10 is a point-and-shoot.

This sounds like a cool solution.  I never thought about utilizing the remote this way.  The major downside I see is that there's no way to see the level indicators without taking the Sony out of the case.

This sony case was offered for free as a Mail-In offer at the end of 2010 with the M10. Hm, actually mine is a little different, the part on the flap that looks like a loop of fabric on the photo, is a flat mesh pouch with a spot of velcro to hold it shut, suitable for a couple memory cards and card adaptors.

 The major downside I see is that there's no way to see the level indicators without taking the Sony out of the case.

You can leave the top partly unzipped and kind of tilt the PCM-M10 so you can see the green (or hope-not red) lights and record levels. You can hit the Record button while recording to light up the display and look at the levels between songs--I don't know if it makes a sound when you light the display as it did with my old Minidisc, but I haven't taken the chance.  With the case partly unzipped, you can also reach your fingers in and lower the level knob if it's too high.

This will work for you. You'll see.

The good: I like it because it goes on a belt loop and makes the M10 look like a cell phone.  Super form-fitting.  Magnetic flap.  Has a hole in the flap for a cable to pass (more lined up for line in than mic in).  Cheap.

The bad: Removing it from the case when you have a mic cable passing through the flap requires caution against unplugging, more challenging when stealthing.
