one important note with the firewire HD, make sure you use the "safely eject hardware" icon in the system tray BEFORE you turn it off or unplug the external drive or else there is a high probability you will corrupt the drive, at least that's what happened to me.

noted and i am trying to remember to do that each time i remove the laptop from the docking station.  i should probably just get in the habit of keeping the drive off, unless i am actually using it.  thanks again!
