Topic: Extracting (and "fixing") Audio from a Video recording

Was talking with a taper buddy this morning and he mentioned he was having an issue with a recent video recording that he did.  He had planned on using the SBD for the audio, but it apparently didn't come out. 

He said the audio off of the video is "distorted."  That could obviously mean a number of different things - but he's wondering how to pull the audio off the video to possibly work with it.  I suppose the *corrected* audio would then be synced back up with the video. 

Also, it's a mini-dv camera.

It's hurting my head just thinking about it.  Anyway, any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!

1) Transfer the video and audio together (standard capture/transfer). Make sure the audio is recorded as PCM and not something compressed. Use an external ADC if you want, but the point is transfer it to where you can edit them digitally.
2) Extract the audio from the video file(s) via a video editor or a demux program.
3) Work on it to fix anything you want/can, then export.
3.5) Compare both files to ensure they are the same length and content hasn't shifted.
4) Remux the video and audio together.
5) Do any video edits.
5.5) Ensure the audio is still synced, (you need to do this before and after remuxing as you can get sync issues in both places but for different reasons).

if distorted means overloaded the camera mic there might be not a possible way to fix it ...
