853's good for shows with a high drunken factor....you must have gotten the steel cage mod with the spill resistant baffle mod.

Thanks guys, for the other technical answers.

Still saving up for those. Thinking about giving them a coat of Camp-Dry for the "repels sloshed warm draft Bud Light" mod lol:)

FYI, I just ran my 853's direct mic in, plug-in power to my m10 for a 2-day fest and recordings came out great.

You need a battery box with my 4.7k mod. Especially with these  mics. 3 volts will not cut it for loud shows. Yeah you might get away with it because the show was not "loud enough" where you were standing.. But why take the chance and ruin a recording? Get a battery box at the very least if you are going to use my 4.7k mod. I also make a 3 wire 9200 that allows you to run the mic with or with out my 4.7k mod that way for quiet shows you get the extra 12 db of gain back + The 40 db of gain my preamp can provide.

Good luck for sure if you want to just use your recorder you will need the plug in power on. You also have to remember that your mic input can also be overloaded so finding where distortion is coming from in this type of situation can be very difficult.
