I used it quite a bit both with a preamp and once or twice with PIP for mini mics. Works fine just as expected.

Have any of you regular DR-701D users noticed how high the prices have gotten for SD cards from the Tascam "approved" list? Crazy.

Unlike my first experience using the DR-70D where I did not use an "approved" SD card and had real issues, I find the 701D works just fine (so far) with pretty much any SanDisk card I've used in it.

If they don't test current cards, then the old cards just get harder and harder to find...
Glad I got a working 128 for a deal.

I have used all types of cards in my 701D and never had any issues. While it resembles the 70d in form factor the operating system is totally different and it did not share the issue that the early 70D firmware had.

Had a first time weirdness with the DR-701D yesterday. It shut down on me twice when recording outdoors. I guess it's possible that could occur when it get's overheated?
I had it covered with a towel on the side of a stage, sun was on it some of the time. It was about 80 degrees outside and about 10-20% relative humidity.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced that.

Yes, but it was a Sound Devices MixPre6 with a Sound Devices branded SD card in the 100+ degree sun that locked up on me.

So this past weekend my Tascam PS-P515U AC Adapter stopped working. Fortunately I had battery backup in my vehicle and only missed a song from the opening band.
I've had this adapter for several years and used it for the 701-D and a 70-D, never an issue. Has anyone seen one of those adapters go bad suddenly? Just wondering.
And if you're using a different AC Adapter, let me know what works for you. Ebay seems to have several available for a decent price.
Thanks

I just use a standard AC USBA plug and an appropriate cable. Never any issues.

Thanks. I've done that successfully as well, and just now did a factory reset and firmware re-update that way. Just really surprised the manufacturer ac adapter failed.

I've been downsizing my gear and getting it down to just the necessities so I picked up another 701d just a couple of days ago. I used one for several years after getting away from the plagued Marantz 706. I kinda forgot how much I like this deck.

After a little troubleshooting and a firmware update I'm ready to rock 4 no frills channels again. Most of my taping opportunities are a board feed and room mics from FOH so this recorder is perfect for me.
