Has anyone tryed a battery hack? It should be child's play to open a battery and make a dummy
to run off external usb power. I think me and Nicky C can make these and sell them if there is enough interest.
I get max 100 minutes on my best batteries. I hate having to take a camera down from a mounted position to change out the battery.
Lets get this project going!

I just bought the battery>2xUSB cable and can run the camera off a massive external battery pack.

Nice tip Chris - I just ordered the coupler USB power kit with the dummy battery.  I really hate lugging even more gear around than I already am, but that is just too good to pass up.  Especially when I'm filming open and using the ZS100 as B roll cam.  Put a 256GB card in it, hook it up to a couple of power packs and let it run for the next 4-5 hours filming in 4K.  Can't beat that with a stick.

Ed - did you cut a little slot into the camera body into which you can insert the wire and close the battery compartment?  Seems like a good idea since it doesn't take much pressure on the internal latch (for the battery itself) to unhinge.

If this is what you did, please post a pic.  Thx.

I didn't need to grind anything. It fit through the hole in the door.

So yesterday I'm looking for this hole ... and thinking "WTF ... ain't no hole."

Got up this morning, had my morning cup of coffee ... and I'll be damned ... now there's a hole!

Kind of funny, but I never looked closely enough at the battery/SD card compartment door to notice that it has a (what I now know from a little bit of research) reserved power cable outlet.

Thanks again Chris.

Yep and Nick C modded the cable to run on external
9 volt power instead of dual usb

I need my camera to sit on shelf’s and seats
the wire sticking straight out of the bottom doesn’t
work for me, my notch does. Actually Nicky cut the notch

If you did a little carving and drilled a hole through a block of wood you could screw that to the camera and notch the wood for the dummy battery . might save one from grinding on ones nice new camera.

Nice recording (how was the original audio ?) but wouldn't it be better to stick to 1080p and keep stabilization ?

After years of trying to make do with my trusty Sony HX90v, mostly for pictures, I jumped on an Amazon Warehouse deal on a TZ100 and will try it next week at a show. Thanks for all the tips in this thread !

has exposure control just below your right thumb...super easy quick access and you can adjust it while filming.

Wow!  Never heard of being able to make changes on the fly with a point-and-shoot.  This is great news.

Yes, but only while in 4K mode.

Any reason this can't be done in 1080p ?

I suppose it depends on how steady you're able to hold the camera when you're filming in hand-held mode.  I have a very steady hand, so it's not a problem for me.  And also, to my eyes at least, 4K is just so much nicer looking than 1080.

Edit to add:  I am pretty sure that the 4K recording limit hack only changes the recording limit while filming in 4K, so you'll still only be able to record clips up to 29 mins 59 secs long in 1080.

Too bad the hack (and settings shared in this topic ?) only work in 4K mode.
30 minutes isn't too bad, it was 15' on my TZ7 and others here mentioned it was 15' for them too, maybe it depends on the area, 15' for Europe and 30' for the US ?

BTW there seems to be a new version of the "battery pack hack" that only requires one USB input now : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FQP6J7P/

So the TZ100 came in from Amazon Refurb and other than the box being a bit beat it looks like new, maybe it is an actual refurb...
Anyway I proceeded to do the YT hack to switch it from PAL to NSTC and all went well but I'm still seeing a limit, 29'59" that is, actually it's 29'59" in 4K and 720p but NOT in 1080p for some reason, it's 27'09" in 30FPS/20mbps and 20'20" in 60FPS/28mbps, strange. Ah no I get it, it's the 4GB FAT32 File limit, but why not in 4K mode ?
Are there instructions specific to the TZ100 to get unlimited recording ? Thanks !
