New device to capture DAT transfers
« on: December 13, 2025, 04:29:07 PM »
It looks like my Microtrack II finally bit the dust - for 2 weeks I was just getting a Booting Firmware screen without the ability to move forward or for the light to even come on, and now it doesn't power on at all while plugged in.

What recommendations are there for a replacement device? I would go to ebay to find it. It should have a digital coaxial input for transfers out of my Tascam DA-20 or Sony PCM-R300.

Thanks in advance!

Tascam DR100 mkii or mkiii. It has a weird coax input cable adapter so if it's not included in the sale you can buy one for a few bucks on Amazon.

Marantz PMD661. The latest version has a firmware difference where you have to adjust the gain on the coax input.

Marantz PMD661. The latest version has a firmware difference where you have to adjust the gain on the coax input.

With the 661 mkiii you have to turn on ALC in the setting and it locks the digital signal so the gain doesn't work snf you get the bits from the box.

Too bad about the Microtrack.
I have 2 of them and they are on again off again.
Be happy to send you one for postage cost if you want to try to get it going again.
once again, lost in all the noise

Thanks beatkilla, goodcooker and jb63 for the 2 recommendations! I wasn't aware of this unit's capabilities, so I will try to get my hands on a used one.

jb63 - thanks for the offer, I don't think I want to fuss with another MTII but I'm grateful for your offer.

The "D100" in your signature is a Sony PCM-D100? Doesn't that have optical digital input?
