I need to hear this!
Pre-ordered one with Jazzfest and Spring Tours in mind.

If I only use it for interviewing it would not be a disappointment

Seems like the perfect application for that.

I've live-streamed from phone on stand mount with built-in with surprising results.
The V-88 could only be better.

Once I get it, I'll post a few samples.
I don't expect magic.
Location. location.  location of mics is  EVERYTHING

No pre, no post, no prayer can fix a crappy source location.

Access makes good recordings and photos, if I have learned anything in 50 years of music-chasing.

I just purchased the USB-C MV88 and am a long time listener first time taper. Call me a pansy, but the fact that it's small enough to fit in my hand and the fact that it only needs a phone to work makes it really desirable to me who never wanted to sneak heavy duty stuff through metal detectors... even though I feel like most shows I go to don't even bother with that shit.

Can you give me some general pointers about location? Or is it venue specific? I go to damn near 100 shows a year it feels so it's very exciting for me to have the opportunity to document that and hopefully have listenable recordings, I guess I'm just a total amateur here. I will post samples in this thread, my first go around with the MV88 will be on the 15th...

Very fortunate update.
I am using the original lightening version and dreaded the day I would have to update my iPhone 14 to a newer USB-C version where the original MV88 wouldn't be compatible.
Zoom M4 Mictrak -> DPA4060 or MKH416
Roland R-07 -> FEL Communications Clippy EM172 Omnis or pair of RĂ˜DE Lavaliers.
iPhone 14 -> Shure MV88 or Sennheiser AMBEO Smart Headset

I've done a bunch of MV88 recording (with the lightning adapter) - and have found it to be a pretty solid recorder. Much better than I'd have expected (though, as with anything, expectations are crucial).

I've recorded stuff from all over, in terms of placement. On the rail of a balcony, in a shirt pocket, taped to a post. It's pretty much set it and forget it. I did have it lose connection once, but generally with reasonable handling it's never been an issue. Can't speak to the USB-C version though.

Might check this out, though I bought a lightning phone to use for just recording a few years back...so no real need to upgrade.

Ive used the MV88 with a 10 ft cable. Just place the mic on any tapers stand and leave the phone off the stand in a gear bag...Works great, but you will not get anywhere  NEAR the quality of audio that you would with decent condensor mics. I used this method and when i leveled up to condensor mics the difference was night and day.

Yeah, I feel like this is better for the shirt pocket use case.

I agree with this. While I think the MV88 is capable of pulling very listenable / solid recordings, what I've been getting out of my AT853 setup of late is significantly better.
