Options! Don't misplace that case. Might consider putting a tracker in it.
Right! The plan right now is that this case won't be leaving the house.
The point of putting everything together in this case (and others as explained below) was to organize all of my recording gear at home. For years I've had my gear kinda stashed here and there at home, but not in a very organized manner. I've gradually gotten more and more disorganized over the years, I think mainly as a result of going festivals and just kinda throwing everything in the back of my car and then upon unpacking it ends up here this time and there next time. You get the point.
Example...lots of my XLRs and miscellaneous cables had been thrown in an orange five-gallon Home Depot bucket, so when I headed out to a fest, I'd just grab my cable bucket. What a mass of spaghetti! I got tired of constantly having to look around for stuff to put together a rig before a show or before the festival starts. 'Hmm, when's the last time I used that TRS > stereo XLRf cable?'
So, I went to Harbor Freight and, in addition to this Apache case, I bought 7 or 8 cheap tool bags ($10 each for a 15-inch black zippered bag). Now I have a bag with all of my screens, another with all of my mounts and clamps, another with all of my recorders, one with tape/hardware/adapters, and so on. I actually needed multiple bags for all of my cables...but now I've finally got all my XLRs neatly wound and stored together in one place. My three main Portabrace gear bags...those that I take out to the show with me...are currently empty. Whenever I head out to the show or festival, I'll just grab one of the empty bags and put together my rig without the need to look here there and everywhere. It's all segregated out in my gear closet by labeled/tagged bags. Should take me a matter of minutes to stage a bag, whereas before getting organized, it make take an hour or more.
An added benefit to doing all this is inventorying all of the odds and ends that I've collected over the years. I never realized how many different times I've re-purchased something that I already had stashed away somewhere. For example, I just discovered exactly how many sets of mics mounts I have. I think I counted 9 different sets of mounts and 6 different mounting bars.
