Nice.  Thanks for sharing your experience.

FWIW, I like to use light stands, not mic stands.  They generally can go higher than mic stands.  At a show that I'm open taping, I need to be at least 9 feet in order to get mics far enough above the chompers to put their annoying voices in the background of my recordings.

Mic Bodies: Schoeps m222 tubes, Schoeps CMC-4 (modified for 48v phantom), Schoeps CMMT-30 x 5, Nakamichi CM-700 x 2
Active Cable Systems:  Schoeps KCY, Schoeps Modded KC5, Schoeps nbob and extensions
Recorders: SD788t x 2, Zoom F6, SD MixPre-3i, Deity PR-2, Zoom F3, Marantz PMD-661, Tascam DR-100i, Marantz PMD-620, Korg MR-1

Those Peak table top stands are more sturdy than they look. I've had one for years. Obviously great for tables or on stage, but I've even used an extension on mine to run ~head height in areas with limited space, so long as I can secure/bungie/tape the base and the standing portion to something. Carrying just an extension and the small stand makes for a nice low pro rig setup, but you need to be somewhat aware of your access surroundings beforehand to make it work like that.

I use a proper tripod because I'm a photographer.  With a baby head extension and some suspended weight it is as bomber as possible without being a full C-stand.  There is a pretty pricey arca swiss to baby head adapter that is the glue that holds the whole thing together.  Packs up easily on my backpack.  I would never trust a light or flash or mic stand.  Too risky for the investment that it's holding.  IMHO.  YMMV.
