Mic question(480 content)
« on: July 12, 2004, 02:18:04 PM »
I set my mics up for Del McCoury for All Good, They were hot from the sun I tried to keep them covered, but it didn't work.  And the first 15/18 mins of my tape is plagued with awful dropouts and crackle and intermitant minutes of perfect music.  Was it the heat, cause the next band NMAS is fine.  Or might it be the tape.

different tape for NMAS?

sounds like a tape issue and not a mic issue if you were fine for the next set...

Yeah I ran a different kind of tape for NMAS.  I was just wondering whether it was the mics cause they were so hot.  Hot to the touch when I unpacked them and put them in the mounts.  I'll look in to switching to Maxells for 90's now.

damn hot to the touch eh? were they shaded from the sun at all prior to you breaking thm out? should be fine but it's generally a good idea to keep them stored where the sun don't shine. if you do, then what kind of bag do you use? it could be insulated and that wouldn't necessarily be good either.

also, i exclusively use maxells and have never had a problem.

HAHAHAHA

 :D

They were in a padded case that was under a green poncho, but i think the poncho was'nt covering it completely.   Maxells make good 90s? If so I guess I am switching up.  Someone gave me a couple of Sony pro 125's and I used one to tape the NMAS and it worked fine, I think they might be a bit pricey gotta do some research.

yeah the sony DAT(audio grade) tapes should be fine....it's more the sony DDS tapes are what some people have problems with.  the first two boxes of dats i bought were sony dds tapes. never had a problem, but when i read all the bad info about them from some people here, over at the oade board, and elsewhere , particularly tose with M1s like me, i switched over to maxells.  i figured might as well switch and prevent any possible problems....so far(over a year now) still no problems and I haven't thought twice about buying maxell dds tapes since :)

ymmv

Left my JB3 in the car recently, and it's been pretty hot.   I turned the JB3 on and it kicked out an error message saying that it had overheated.  Held it in front of the AC vent for a few minutes, then restarted it and it fired up fine.  I know it would shut down if it got too hot, but didn't know there was an error message for it.
