Is the 3.5mmTRS input plug on the NJB3, the same as you would use for a Sony D6 line in ? I'm a real newbie to Digital

Yep...but it is also a fiber optic digital input...A dual function/format jack...

for an analog patch yes
but you have a digital recorder so I'd try and get a digital patch.

some people may have an optical out, it's worth asking for it. The apogee ad500 and ad1000 both have optical outputs..
