because if the jb3 battery isnt fully charged, when external power is being applied, the jb3 internal will try charging itself while recording, which is bsically just putting extra stress on the jb3 that isnt needed!

And what sort of "stress" are we talking about?  Blowing a fuse?  Causing pops or clicks in the recording?

I think i understand your question.  The other battery you are looking for is a 12v sla.  Then you connect that to the sima box and the sima to your jb3.  The sima converts the sla to work with the jb3.

Yes if you dont have a Internal Battery In the Jb3 and your external battery source Dies . YOU WILL loose your recording.

Best advice is to just make sure you charge your Jb3 before the show. If your running the Sima or walmart power converter you could even "Top Off" the Jb3's internall batts on the way to the show in your car.. (if ya forgot to charge them at home)

just wanted to say thanks for pointing this out as an option - picked up a SIMA SUP-2 off of eBay a few months ago - I love that thing - works perfect for external power in the field and allows me to charge my batts in the car.

hmm the 60 is only ac power, no dc
otherwise seems to be the same as sup2

which seems odd because the 60 at cc said ac/dc, but on simas page it just says ac

so do you have to power the sima box with a 12v SLA current or could you us a 9.6v rc batt???

I believe any battery other than a 6V will work. If anyone wants to buy one locally, the Meijer here carries the SUP-1 for $35 in the camera/film department, so your local Meijer may have them also.

Wal-Mart batt will work and I believe the M sized adaptaplug will fit (sorry not sure what size plug)
