cables, right angles, and the v3

this is my current setup (note the messy cables at the bottom), i currently have my right angles coming out at the bottom, and it seems to work quite nicely, however, its so much easier to leave them plugged in rather than to remove them after each show.  Only when i do this its really hard to keep them looking need and orderly...at least if i'm tearing down in a hurry after a show.  Right now, i'm just kind of shoving the cables in the bag and then when i get home i put them back in order.

Just wondering what some of you guys do about this?  I was thinking, maybe i'd make some short cables that i could easily connect and disconnect from but didn't know if it'd be a good idea or not.

Good Q. I have the same setup but I use a lountainsmith cairn and have the V3 suspended by two pieces of lite wood velcrowed to each side. I also have the right angle cables but, it is a mess wtih the extra cable just lying in mybag. It gets all screwed up in there...

I ran a short pair of cables out of my V3 (terminating in female xlr) and then plugged the longer cables into those when setting up.   When stowing gear, just disconnect the mic cables from the short extensions.   Made my life a lot easier.  In one incarnation of my rig, I zip-tied the ends of the extension cables to the hard case shell so that when I opened the case, they were right there, ready to take a plug.

sweet, i'll probably do the same thing then.  i just didn't want the extra connections being made to introduce noise or other problems down the road.  I'm assuming i should be safe then?

I understand the concern about additional connections. I never had a problem.  Just be sure to use good connectors and it doesn't hurt to clean them occasionally using caig progold and a pipe cleaner.

how do you keep them from getting tangled bean, do you just roll them up slowly?  if i take my time rolling them up, i'm fine, but after a show, i just want to get out of there.  i just bought a mountainsmith cairn and built a rack for my v3, so when that gets here, i'll see what i can do.

also, mine are nylon tied every so often to prevent tangling

i was using the nylon zip ties and moke said in another thread that they're bad for the cables so i took them all off.  i ordered the supplies to make some one footers which should work nicely.

Instead of using tape or zipties, take the ends off your long cables, put them through some techflex, and then reattach the connectors.   That will keep your long cables bound together in an attractive protective sheath.  Only do this if you aren't planning to run split omnis with them someday.

ehh, whatever, i had my older xstreams zip-tied for 5 years prolly, and i was always NOTHING but happy w/them, besides, i dont pull the shit out of the zip-ties, i just make them snug

umm, i noticed in markertek that they even have techflex that youcan soimply put 'over'cables, they simply have velcro that you just 'snap' over your cables

i would like to go that route ideally, BUT, in wet conditions, water will soak up in that techflex like a wick, and that cant be good w/ the xstreams and the bumblebee cables, they wont wick uplike that either

Well those xstreams have pretty beefy jackets if they are the ones I'm thinking of.   What started the last round of zip-tie bashing was the discussion about tangled active cables.  The jacket of the neuman actives is soft and anything hard will bite into it.  Some other cables have soft jackets.


I hadn't considered water wicking into the techflex.  How is it that the bumblebee cables wouldn't have that problem?  Anything covered with techflex is going to suffer from wicking to some degree, especially if there are pairs resulting in gaps between the techflex and cable jacket.  Damn.  I was thinking of running my actives through techflex, but now I may have to reconsider.  Water I don't worry about as much as the river of beer we were standing in at the Philly Panic show.  I don't want my actives smelling like my shoes did the next day.

if the techflex/cables get wet, you can simply dry them with ease in a warm room or something similar.

yeah, xstreams had a beefy jacketfor sure, the bumblebeecables have a rather stiff, yet flexibe cable, theyre IDENTICAL to the cable used in the audio magic hyperconductors :)thin diameter yet very rugged,so i should be good to go hopefully, hell tho, every cable i have has a zip-tie on it, even my sp rt angle optical cables, tho that one is put on verygently;D
