JB3 20g vs 40g......
« on: February 08, 2006, 10:59:14 PM »
Pros and cons?  I'm concerned specifically that the larger the drive the bigger and noisier it is....
...Maybe the bigger ones write faster and are less prone to anomoly or error?
Comments??

the only thing i can think of is the availablity OEM 20 vs 40.  judging from the amount of peeps here, i would say it is close to 90% 20's and 10% for the 40's...

I own both a 40 and 20, haven't really ever noticed a louder hard drive on the 40, if you're going optical in it shouldn't be an issue. If you're doing line in I'm not sure, I've never ran line in on the 20. When I've done it on the 40 I've had the gain on the JB3 cranked up which produced some hard drive noise. As long as you keep the internal gain on the JB3 down hard drive noise shouldn't be too bad.

I packed lots of stuff on to my old 20gb one and never came close to filling it. You'll probably need to do a reformat before you can use that much space. Otherwise, you'll wind up with clicks and pops on the recording.

I also have a 40 GB JB3. I've never had a problem going line-in or optical-in. Guess I'm also in the 10% category. I can't ever see coming close to filling up the harddrive so the 20 GB version should do you just fine. The only reason I got a 40 GB is because I was buying from a local taper and he gave me a wonderful deal.

I have problems with my 20, and not my 40. I bought my 20 reconditioned from Creative.

i run a 40 with no probs....cant even think of a reason to have the hd full on it....20 should be fine and if not swap out the drive yourself for a larger one...just my opinion

 :D i'm thinking of making a 60gb jb3, just because i can. i don't think i've ever used more than 25% of my 20gb disc space though...
