Almost impossible to overload the R-09 MIC input, as this has wide dynamic extending into LINE level ability.

I've had great luck using mic in (low sens), with AT853, AT822 and Senn MKE2. Note that some mics have lower sensitivity/output than others. Could be up to 10dB difference, with AT853 a little on the low side.
Levels up to about #25 sound great. Going up to #30 will introduce a bit of noise, but it is still fine. For amplified music, this is great. For acoustic stuff (ie., no PA) you will need an external preamp. The high-sens setting has just too much self noise.
