JB stuck in recovery mode???
« on: April 06, 2007, 09:19:43 AM »
I'm having hella JB3 problems right now.  Maybe someone with more experience can help.   So you may or may not know that I killed my JB3 about a month ago and had to replace it. (they really don't like 9 volts...)  the one I got seemed to be the best (newest) one I'd ever seen.  It even came in it's origonal box and had plastic on the screen.  So I taped a couple of shows with it and everything seemed normal.  Taped RAQ on Wednesday and all went well.  got home yesterday and turned on the unit and it goes directly to recovery mode.  power down, power back up same thing.  WTF??  I click on clean cause that should brign me back to normal mode with out looding any data.  Nothing.  still hung in recovery.  UGH!  I really don't want to loose the files that are on the unit.  they are all only source shows that haven't been transfered yet.  What to do?  any ideas?

Another desperation move - have your tried connecting it to your computer first and then powering it up...?

If it were me - and I wanted to try EVERYTHING...

Take it apart...and press on the hard drive connections a little bit...

Make sure the screws that hold the drive are snug...

No, I haven't really tried much more cause I REALLY don't want to loose the files.  I'm stuck at work and can't do anything till later tonight.  I am mega frusterated.  I've had this unit for like two weeks.  I had my first one for two years without a problem. (till I fried it but who can I blame for that...)  I'm taping RAQ again tonight and don't want to reformat the drive for it casue then I loose Wednesdays show.  FUCK!  I think I'm gonna try to borrow something to record to.  I need something more stable.

bad.

unit is stuck in rescue mode.  won't clean, won't reformat, won't reboot.  just stuck.  I'm pretty sure I am going to loose the Providence recording and wasn't able to find a bit bucket in time for Northampton.  I am thoroughly frustrated.  I now have two dead JB3's both with only source recordings stuck on them.  If I didn't have hundreds of great tapes from over the years to listen to and remind myself that I love this I'd start selling stuff.  I am going to replace the JB3 with something els though.  I just don't trust it anymore.

at this point I would remove the hard drive completely and get it connected to a computer one way or another.
Once connected you can try several things. Just that alone might be able to access the files.
If the data is corrupted than you can try data recovery tools.
I'm in the process of dealing with this myself as I had my computer lock up in the middle of trying to transfer files from the HD-P2 to the computer and now the flash is corrupted and the data just might be lost... :(
Funny I was thinking how reliable the JB3 has been and easy to use all the way around compared to what I am going through now..
