Elastic shock mount recommendations for AKG c480b's?
« on: August 28, 2007, 07:53:01 PM »
I've been steadily growing dissatisfied with the AKG H30 elastic shock mounts I bought for my AKG c480b's.  You have to twist the mike in through the elastic, and one of the elastic bands often comes loose and has to be rethreaded through it's eyehole.  I absolutely do not trust these.  Does anyone know of a decent pair of elastic shocks I can get for under $150 each?  Thanks!

i have used the at8410 and the superlux.  the superlux are a little like your current ones, and do have there problems, but they are super cheap, low profile and light weight.  i prefer them over my at8410 for these reasons.  the at8410 are very nice, but i would probably get at8415 if i had to do it again

I use the Shure A53M donut shock mounts on my 460s. The Dead used them on many of their stage mics back in the day and I gave them a try after seeing a photo of one up close. Love them! They fit snug and secure, give more than enough shock protection for PA taping, and pack up easily, and you don't have to worry about breaking them in your bag, stretching them out, etc.

go with the Shure a53m's, they are what I have used for years, solidly built, fairly inexpensive, small

IMO the AT suck.  I am planning on getting something else soon.  I have had a few break and when/if the rubber band comes off it a pain getting that thing back on and center the mount...

SabraSom are somewhat cheep and very flexable.  I've been using them for my 480s.  I just picked up the 4mic bar cause it's long enough to hold the 489 guns and the regular shocks fit on the bar.  Their system is pretty modular.  I've also not had a band break in almost 4 years.

Edit:
Link to manufacturer.... They sell them at B&H and other places.

if you want something thats both lo-pro and durable as hell, get the AT 8415's and simply be done with it! Ive had mine for 4 years and LOVE MINE, and theyre smaller and more lo-pro than the AT 8410's!

B+H sells the AT 8415+K-Tek K-SUS Heavy Duty Rubber Mounts combo that I have and I couldnt be ANY happier for my 480's :)

I really like my sabras too - but here's one thing to beware of - if you take a big kick or wookie bump - the mics CAN jump right out of the mounts - the cords kept them from crashing to the ground...

I only use them in "ideal" scenarios...

Usually run the Avantones these days...

Those look cool. So thats a single piece molded support? I cant figure out what the replacement part is for?
