- Price: I'm willing to splurge.

willing to splurge means different things....$500? $1000? $2400?

fwiw, I know you want to stay away from omni's but the dpa 406x are really hard to beat.

I got a look at the DPA 4080s at the AES show yesterday.  There will be versions with less bass roll-off early next year, they look to be real killers (easy to get out of the supplied shockmount as well).

no fear with the 853's.  Lots of people on this board use them with good results.  I've had mine for 2.5 years and am consistently happy.  'Till I have an extra 5k laying around to drop on some active Neumanns or DPAs I'll be hanging onto mine.  The swappable caps make them extra fun.  Definitely recommend the sub-card caps for quieter concerts.

I got to listen to the new DPA shotguns, which are amazing.  I got a look at the odd Thuresson mic that looks like a birdcage, it's much smaller than the picture on the web linked to another TS thread lead me to believe it was.  I also dropped in on Josephson to see a live C700 stereo mic, lots of people at the show spoke very hghly of it (and for 7 thou it's yours).  It's not new, but very tempting (dream on).

He said, willing to splurge, that's why I recco'd those dpa 4021's to him, only $2400 each, pretty splurge-worthy IMO. By the way, the NYC taper who posts here uses them and his recs are marvelous, at least the ones where he's not in the BIG auditoriums.

Also, Martin, the dpa's are bulletproof.

Thank you very much for those kind words.
