Edirol R-09 Impedance? (for roll-off settings...)
« on: October 31, 2007, 11:51:21 AM »
Been searching a bit and can only find info for DAT, Iriver, can't find any info for edirol r-09.

Just wondering how each roll-off setting really works when going line-in using a battery box.

Thanks,
Simon.

P.S. Am I explaining it correctly?

Thanks, can't beleive I'm stupid enough not to look at the specs first, lol.

Sorry for yet another goofy question, just wondering now what the roll-off will actually be on each setting? I'm not sure how its worked out, I found a thread that said you need to divide by 5 times less to get the real setting...

The Magic formula is:

f=1/(2*pi*RC)

f = frequency desired (in Hz)
pi = 3.1415927......
R = Input impedence of your recorder (in Ohms)
C = Capacitor value (in Farads)

Never was any good at maths.  :-\

Very handy javascript calculation pages are available for this.  One for you to simply plug in capacitance and ohms (desired reactance= deck input ohms) is at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/XLC.htm

With R-09, if mic power is OFF, then stated specs are accurate, but if mic power is turned ON, then expect input impedance ohms to drop to ~2,000 ohms.  This can be handy if wanting more bass reduction using same capacitor value by turning on mic power in the menu.
