Samson CO2 mics
« on: February 10, 2008, 12:59:44 AM »
Has anyone actual recording experience with these.  At $100 a pair they are cheap.  I had a pro tell me he really likes them and uses them a lot.  He has a lot of much more expensive mics to play with.  He played a recording he did, commercial, with the CO2's on the guitar and it sounded OK.

So, what is the board's experience with the Chinese mics?

I have a pair of Behringer C-2's. I bought them for dangerous field recording assignments when there's a chance the mic will be destroyed :) They are similar to the Samsons.

My experience is that the Behringers punch way above their weight. They are capable of making excellent recordings. However! They are a bit noisey @ 75 dB. So if the source is loud and or there is some reasonable background noise they are great. If you are in a studio and or the noise source is distant and or quiet then you will be wanting something with better noise specs. I suspect the CO2s are similar.

I made these field recordings with a pair of C-2s FYI...

In summary, the CO2s and C-2s are so cheap you have no excuse not to own a pair.

Check the LMA for some recordings, they sound pretty good for there price. There the same and the superluxs. If your lucky you can score some Omnis and Hypers for them

Guys, thanks for the input.  I will search out some recordings with them.  But for either $25 or $50 they are a bargain.  I do want them to sound good, too, though.  Thanks, again, for the input.
