Maybe this is old news.....just passing on an email I just got :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally ... your SHOTGUN microphone will sound like a Schoeps!

Schoeps Microphones and Redding Audio, Inc. proudly present the Schoeps CMIT 5U shotgun microphone. Schoeps enthusiasts in the production sound community have been nearly begging for this microphone for years! The wait is finally over and this microphone delivers what no other shotgun can: the Schoeps sound.

Let's look under the hood!
Three pushbutton-activated filters:

 High-frequency emphasis (+5 dB at 10 kHz)
 Steep low-cut filter (18 dB/oct. below 80 Hz)
 Gentle low-frequency rolloff (6 dB/oct. below 300 Hz)

A pair of LEDs next to each filter pushbutton indicates the status (in/out) of each filter - a practical feature that is truly unique for a microphone of this type.

Weight: An amazing 3 1/8 ounces!
 48 Volt phantom powering
 Superior RF immunity
Unusually low coloration of off-axis sound, for a shotgun
Pickup pattern is consistent in both the horizontal and vertical planes (unlike some popular shotguns)
 Increased directivity at medium frequencies
Less sensitive to wind noise than a Schoeps CMC 641
Schoeps sound quality makes the microphone suitable for music recording as well as dialogue
 Beautiful, blue anodized all-metal housing

Schoeps: Innovation redefined
The focus on outstanding high quality, reliability, and neutral, accurate sound has been the production philosophy of Schoeps microphones since 1948. The simple elegance and clever engineering of their products reflects a true passion for the art of microphone manufacturing and a tireless attention to detail. Schoeps is most famous for its Colette Modular Microphone System, the most extensive and versatile microphone system ever conceived. Introduced in the early seventies, the Colette System is still the heart of the Schoeps line today. It was the first of its kind, allowing the use of various active accessories between the capsule and amplifier body and is undoubtedly the standard to which all other small-diaphragm microphones are compared. The CMIT 5U continues in this tradition of superb quality, innovation and functionality that all Schoeps products share. Be sure to check out the remarkably vast Schoeps product line, which offers practical solutions for endless microphone applications.

Not your ordinary shotgun ...
For years Schoeps has declined requests to produce a shotgun type microphone. The company felt if they were going to produce a shotgun microphone, there had to be some level of uniqueness and improvement. Besides the über-cool push buttons and its LEDs, this microphone produces a natural sound not thought possible with an interference-tube design.  It is only fitting that they finally are offering one since Schoeps' Technical Director Joerg Wuttke, the Project Manager of the CMIT 5U had studied with and assisted the inventor of the interference tube "shotgun" microphone, Professor Günther Kurtze. Countless location recordists already use a Schoeps CMC 641 supercardioid in conjunction with their favorite non-Schoeps shotgun to handle all their audio capture needs. For the first time, users can enjoy an audible cohesion between their venerable CMC 641 and their shotgun.

i like shotguns for voice overs in commercials because of the huge proximity effect.  really lends itself for that.

It would be nice if they can release the most important info on this stick.  Ya know, the real specs:

Frequency, Dynamic Range, Sensitivity, and Noise.  I couldn't find it on their site.

Right now, the premier audio shotguns (for our hobby) are the Sennheiser 416s, Audio Technica AT4073As, and AKG 489s.  I'd like to see how the Schoeps stack up to them.

Frequency 40 - 20K
Sensitivity 17 mv/pa
Current consumption: 4.4 mah
load impedance: 600 ohm or greater
Noise Equiv 13 db
Max SPL 132 db @ .05% THD
pattern: supercardioid/lobe

600 ohm load or greater.  Average condensor is 200 ohms or lower

Low sensitivity for a shotgun: 17mv/pa.  The TOTL shotguns average around 50 mv/pa.

Power guzzler: 4.4 mah.  Average mic is 2 mah or lower

Noise level is nice and low at 13 db.

This mic compare to the AKG C568EB shotgun  the 568 is also a 600 ohm stick.  Its sensitivity is 11 mv/pa, Frequency 20-20K, 600 ohm,   Max SPL 128 @ .05% THD,     Noise equiv. 18 db.
Pattern: hypercardioid/pressure gradient  Below 500 hz - a hyper, above 500 hz - increasing directionality

This comparison is based on specs alone.  How it sounds will probably be found in some of the Vid-head forums on the 'net.  They'll be the first to try it out.  Important to note: this mic is not a capsule, but a stand alone stick.
