CA-11 Shockmount
« on: June 08, 2012, 05:16:20 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has ever made or purchased some type of a shockmount for their CA-11's. A lot of times I use them for open taping and not just stealth.

Thanx

I have used a Tensimount. I'm on my phone but if you search Tensimount and my name you'll find some posts about it and maybe even some pics.
If you have a problem relating to the Live Music Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/etree) please send an e-mail to us admins at LMA(AT)archive(DOT)org or post in the LMA thread here and we'll get on it.

Hoppedup has done a DIY for his Church microphones...

Well, I did finally use a tree for taping. Placed a mini tripod in the crook of a large tree at He's Not Here in Chapel Hill and used a 19" gooseneck to get the mics out away from the tree.:

I didn't have a camera with a flash. Someone sent me this shot. Wish I had more.

Ha ha. I'm still using the above shockmount. Two small cross-stitch hoops with four hair bands on a 3/8-16 thumbscrew into a threaded rod connector with a six inch ruler for the bar. About $3.50 in materials. I've been meaning to make a better one, but this design has served well for the last 3+ years. I'm on the second one now. The original one had rubber bands but they had to be replaced too often.

Here's a couple of threads with more pics:

Whats a good arm length to go with? just bought a pair of ca-11's myself and am looking at mounting options.  will the 6" give adequate flexibility for running different patterns? I'm thinking the 12" but if anyone has any input i'd appreciate it!  thanks!

^ depends if the config you want is 6" or less.  i would personally go with the 12" even though its usually set up ORTF which may be possible with the 6".  if you ever got a set of omnis you could use it to do a 1' split with the longer one which is nice.
