From what I'm told, the mod lowers the gain, but not the noise floor in relation to the gain. So, if you end up having to to boost it, you'll end up with more noise, problematic for recording like that.
Well,if you're doing soft music, you'll probably be using a pre (ideally) so obviously the noise should be kept to a minimum. When I run stealth I do 853>Nadys/PS2(1/8" line out mod)>HIMD...but lately I've been doing a lot of "open" shows so I've been doing 853>8532s>AD-20>optical in/HIMD. Both ways are ultra quiet for soft stuff and both can handle high SPLs. There are several people here who can build you a box...probably could have Chris Church build you one.
I don't think AT spec'd their 3 wire mics running off of a 2 wire box. I do believe on the factory spec sheet provides info on the mics ran from their power modules and phantom.
Well I mainly record musical theatre...so I think the 4.7k mod might be a bit excessive for me. The sound never really gets too loud in those shows. Wouldn't I have to set my recorder level much higher, therefore increasing noise? Or am I wrong? And yeah they all came with Cardioid capsules.
Thanks. I actually already have a SP pre that I use. How exactly would I go about making an adapter cable? I'm not really experienced with things like that. Is there any place I could buy one? Thanks
So all I would need is a dual mini XLR Y cable to 1/8", and it would function the same as if both mics were terminated into 1/8 without an adapter? Would they work with plug-in power? Thanks
