I like the MR1 in a narrow win of plus's and minuses.
the R09 has way better USABILITY ..., battery life (thats a big one), SD storage.
the MR1 sounds really good, but has its complications.

I dont think you can go wrong w/either.

Checkout Jimbo's Jimmy Herring Band source from 4-24-09 in the kickdown.....he ran into the mr-1 that night.

I think it's more complicated than that. All I use now is a deck for SBD patching. So, I wanted something small that can take a decently hot SBD signal and sounds good. The R-09HR can take a hotter SBD signal before needing attenuators. There is no need for an external battery pack with the R-09HR as well. Soundwise, the MR-1 gets a very slight edge, but I don't know if that edge would be noticeable for a SBD feed.

YMMV. It depends on the recording scenario. If Korg replaces the MR-1 with something more field-friendly, it will be on my short list.

Okay few questions to users, I think I'm nearly sold on this, id be comfortable using an ext. power source....

Where can the external battery adapter/supply piece be ordered from?
How is the headphone out, levels easily adjustable while recording?
Does this supply plug-in power to run 4060/61 mics?

I have one, but it is finicky. Definitely a "high-maintenance/high-reward" relationship.

The free battery pack is available from Korg if you buy from an authorized retailer:

http://www.korg.com/services/promotions/MR1/MR1_coupon.pdf

This takes 4 AA batteries. There are other options available too.

The levels are very easy to adjust while recording. It is done with a dial on the side of the unit, just push the dial in and rotate it up or down.

The mic inputs are 1/8 mono jacks that can be balanced or unbalanced. They supply 3V of power. I am not sure if this is enough for DPA4060, and not only that, but don't they require special adapters?

3V will not power the 4060s but will power the 4063s.  You need to change the terminators from microdot to 1/8" mono, easier to use a battery box or MMA6000 preamp I think (I have run the M1 with an MMA6000 and 4060s).

Well theyre already term'd to 1/8"

That sucks about the power.
I used to use the M1 too, but got kind of spoiled with the iriver taking the battery out of the chian,
even though the sound of that deck sucks. :banging head:

The r9 will power the dpa's properly, right?
Have to make a choice soon, don't want to run another summer on this deck.
Should have never sold my m1!!!
