722 repair under warranty questions..........
« on: May 05, 2009, 11:22:23 PM »
Just to clarify, ALL 7xx units come w/ a 3-year warranty, correct? I need to get my 722 updated w/ the new V 2.0 Hardware revision, and I need the battery pin that keeps the batteries locked into place, repaired, as my 722 battery pin to hold the batteries in place has been broken for some time now, and I would like it replaced, so that my Sony DK-415 "Dummy Cell" NEVER has the opportunity to come out unless I want to take it out, which it never does.....

So, the question I'm asking is: How do I go about getting an RMA Number and all that shit from SD so I can send my 722 in to get the V 2.0 update and the battery pin replaced ??? I bought my 722 in Late May of 2006 (3 years already making AMAZING RECORDINGS CONSISTENTLY) so I have about a month to send it in if the warranty is 3 years old ;) I would like to send it to them as soon as possible since I dont have any shows to record for at least a few weeks unfortunately :P So, I would like to take care of this ASAP, so I dont get screwed because there is NO FUCKING WAY IN HELL that I'll be paying $250.00 for the v 2.0 update and to replace a battery pin. I'll just leave them both as is, since my 722 works PERFECTLY, and only really needs the battery pin holder replaced ;)

If someone could PM me instructions on how to send my 722 in, I would be VERY APPRECIATIVE ;) I believe I would need an RMA Number, like most companies do, correct ???

Thanks in advance,
Bean

Thanks fellas! I couldve SWORN there was a 3-year warranty. Looks like I was WAY OFF :P I thought they did the v 2.0 update free of charge then, right?

Looks like my battery pin is staying the way it is :P Because there is NO WAY IN HELL I am paying $250.00 to fix a battery pin :P Or to get the V 2.0 Update, since I write to a 32GB CF Card AND backup to the INHDD at the end of the night ;) I have NO NEED for the V 2.0 update, since I NEVER plan on writing to an External HDD/CF Card ;)

+T's all around fellas for the info ;)

pretty sure they do the v2.0 upgrade for free.

Since they're doing that, you might be able to get them to fix the other item cheaply or for free. worth a shot, just give them a shout.

Good point, Ian!

So, should I call them ??? Anyone have a direct number to Nic ???

UPDATE/EDIT: Nevermind about the phone number. I just found it from Nic's one post in Mark's thread ;) I'll give them a buzz tomorrow and see what they have to say.

Bean, I recently fixed the battery pin on my 722. Since the day I had gotten it it was stuck in. This was never really a problem, but being I had the 722 open to change the hard-drive out, I figured I would take a look and see what was wrong with the pin.

It ended up being a very simple fix. Behind the pin there is supposed to be a small piece of pink foam like material. When you press the pin in, the foam compresses, when you let the pin go the foam pushes the pin out. Somehow, the foam shifted a little so that it was no longer behind the pin. I went in with a small dental pick and pulled the foam back where it belonged and the pin now works as it should. 15 minute fix tops.

It is so simple a fix that if you are sending it for the V2.0 upgrade, that I would be surprised if they would even charge to do it. If they want money to do it, just do it yourself.

Awesome, thanks for the info, JD 8) I really dont want to open my 722 myself, but if they want to charge for it, I might have to ;)

Its really not a huge issue, since I keep a Sony DK-415 Dummy Cell in my 722 AT ALL TIMES, and its in there pretty good, but its essentially the ONLY THING WRONG w/ my 722, and I'd feel ALOT SAFER if it were fixed, that's for sure ;) Especially since I leave my dummy cell in it at all times. Once its fixed, I'd just feel safer about it, thats all!
