hiya TS'ers - i am in need of another nice pair of cardioids. i have owned DPA 4011s, schoeps cmc64s, m300s, km184s, c481s and 461s, AT4051s, and many others over the years, so i have a fair handle on what things sound like versus what they cost.
my main application is chamber music, for which i use a main ORTF pair and flanking omnis, and need a second pair of cards for spots, and as stereo pair for piano, pedal harp, etc. my main mics right now are the AT4051s which i really like a lot. i'd pick up another pair of those, but i cant ever seem to find a used pair of those. i always liked how smooth the AKGs were, and i have heard lots of good tihngs about the beyer MC930s but havent heard them. would like to stay around $600 ballpark for a used pair...
i am looking for mics that have a very flat response in thte top end - ie, NO top end hype. what do youse guys reccommend these days? danke.

Hmm...I thought I might have a good comp for you, but the best I can do is this:

The pre's/recorders are different. Different bands, different styles. But...same placement in the same bar.
I owned both the 461's and 930's for a while...stuck with the 930's. I like them as drum OH's better, and I couldn't really pick a live music winner. Both were winners on different nights....

If I only had the old girl now....

both are great mics. Either pair would do the job well. I'm partial to beyers. I prefer the 460 body with the ck1 cap with a60 reducer ring. Never a fan of ck61 caps.

I can offer you this comp too:

I use Peluso's with the sub-card CK21 caps. I have seen them go used with multiple caps for around the price you are looking for.
Here is a pull I got from a Baroque Quartet with Aaron Redner (HBR), all accoustic and I am happy with the results.

IMO, for transparency and accuracy the Violet Design Black Finger beats them both.
I think the reason it doesn't get much attention around here is that it's not a common taper mic.
