i can only get my sub to work w/ sources up to 24/48. the sub and the A.F.D. option does NOT work while playing 24/96 dvd-a's. any suggestions? in the troubleshooting section it mentions that the soundfields do NOT work for sources over 24/48. this is a deal breaker. :-\

Weird....
Just got mine today - haven't hooked it up yet (and also don't have a DVD-A to test).
-
dont get me wrong, the frickin box sings, but i need bass. my bookshelfs cant do it all.

First off, take it out of AFD mode and set your input to coax, opti, analog - whatever. Put it in direct mode. This really does sound better.
If I put in a Wavelab 2496 DVD-A into my Pioneer DV-578A, the Sony will show 96kHz stream on the display. So I know it is getting the signal. If I put in a store-bought (read copy protected) DVD-A, my receiver shows a 48kHz stream. My dvd player downsamples all copyprotected DVD-A's to 2448 through the digital output. Maybe this is your problem. I read a discussion on audioasylum about the AFD and the prevailing opinion was that is sounds better off - so this is what I did. I have tried it both ways and am not sure if I hear a difference (although using Direct is def an improvement), byt ymmv. Give it a go ;D

i noticed this as well. when i plug the 722 direct into the receiver it shows a 96 stream but will not change out of 2 channel mode. i want the sub in that scenario as well so let me know if you figure it out.

these 24/96 dvd-a's were all created in wavelab. none of them are store bought. i knew that direct would sound better, but the sub doesnt work at all on direct. i have assigned the correct inputs. the only time the sub works is in A.F.D 2.1 mode as long as the source is not 24/96. everything else movies, tv, cd's, dvd-a's up to 24/48 the sub works fine. so it sounds like im fuct. for referecce, my source is a pioneer 563-a assigned to optical>scad input and pioneer dvr cable box assigned to coax>dvd.

hrmm... I have same DVD player too. (great unit IMO).
What version of wavelab are you using (out of curiosity).

5.0a. agreed on the 563. love it.

that really bites. My only suggestion would be to set the Pioneer to downsample to 2448, but then that kinda defeats the purpose of 2496. This really eats it - I do not have a sub so I never noticed this before - def not cool - but not a deal breaker for me. If I had a sub though..... :banging head:
-
funny you mention downsampling. i used to downsample to 24/48 just to make a show fit on one disk, but i could hear the difference, so i stopped doing that. oh well. :banging head: <~~me

I currently have mine setup to run stereo w/sub through the AFD. It does sound different, but atleast its outputting a signal to the sub. One thing I guess that could be done, is run a Y cable from the L/R pre outs, to a sub??? I dont know how much diff it'd sound, but it'd be an option...
What I thought was kind of frustrating was I had to have a multichannel source playing in order to setup the AFD to create the SW channel for stereo playback.... that was very irritating.
-
drew got it figured out yet? sounds complicated, my ideal is you come and set it up here and make it play

i will try this. thanks +t.

I got a DVDA to play with sub last night (24/48). If only my MT would record digi in at 24/96 I could test it that... ;)

While this might work, I would think that if the fronts are set to small you would only be outputting freq. abouve the crossover point selected.

yet another reason why full range speakers are tops.
so you have the speaker setup in the menu dialed in properly I can assume?
I'd call Doug w/this question. anyone there can probably answer it for you. its a defect i've never heard of. i'm thinking its a setting in the system.

new problem. the 3000es has been moved to its original intended home. after hooking it all up, i got the "error 11 protection" message. after rewiring, more rewiring, and completly unplugging everything, i still get the same error. i , then, noted that the speakers are both 4ohm. can the 3000es handle a 4ohm load? even if this is the problem, it persisted when NOTHING but the ac cord was plugged in. :help:

call sony, I got a similar error on mine and they fixed it...dont remember the exact error message but sony can probably tell you the issue.
-
not what i wanted to hear, but thanks for the quick reply. +t
-
more of what you dont want to hear...they are not rated for 4ohm loads.
:(
-
fuck.
-
it pays to look into these things ahead of time. always ask "will this amp drive my speakers properly?"..its an important question when you have a 4ohm load to drive.
that doesn't help you now...but maybe next time.

bumping this cause a new thread was silly.
question:
do you guys "eq"? what i mean is, when i cut down the bass, i "hear" a slight noise and see the little light on the screen that says EQ come on. does this mean it is no longer *direct*?
btw, all the problems from this thread have been solved. i just bought one of these too. i was "auditioning" trey's, but i had 301's at the the time w/ a sub that wont work w/ the 3000es, but thats okay cause i just got a pair of b&w 604's. i kinda miss my sub, and i may get one eventually that will accept rca inputs, but right now my credit card hates me.
-
At least you got rid of the Blows er I mean Bose ;D I'm assuming those were the 301's

Yes, it no longer means it's direct. At this point, you're digitally manipulating the stream. Don't worry about the slight noise. Mine does it too.

i kept them. i blew one the paper 8's years ago, and replaced them w/ free-air rockford fosgates. ;Ddo you guys "eq"? what i mean is, when i cut down the bass, i "hear" a slight noise and see the little light on the screen that says EQ come on. does this mean it is no longer *direct*?

i thought so, i didnt mean that it sounded bad. thanks. +t

I think that even in direct mode that you mention, there is some DSP going on.
I shut off my EQ, and I can't make adjustments at all. what you see is what you get.
:)

how do you go about applying no DSP?
-
in the menu. there is an EQ off/on option. shut it off and then all tone controlls are grayed out and unobtainable.
