Quotedo you guys "eq"? what i mean is, when i cut down the bass, i "hear" a slight noise and see the little light on the screen that says EQ come on. does this mean it is no longer *direct*?

Yes, it no longer means it's direct. At this point, you're digitally manipulating the stream. Don't worry about the slight noise. Mine does it too.

I think that even in direct mode that you mention, there is some DSP going on.
I shut off my EQ, and I can't make adjustments at all.  what you see is what you get.

in the menu.  there is an EQ off/on option.  shut it off and then all tone controlls are grayed out and unobtainable.
